Before getting rid of your pet... try Acidophilus!

WTF is Acidophilus you say? WELL... it's the answer to your pet allergies! Probiotics (live microbial organisms) are considered beneficial and are sometimes referred to as "friendly" bacteria. Some of the ways they are thought to promote health include suppressing the growth of potentially harmful bacteria, improving immune function, enhancing the protective barrier of the digestive tract, and helping to produce vitamin K. Acidophilus not only helps with maintaining a healthy immune system, but it also helps to clear your allergies due to pet hair dander. Take 1 acidophilus capsule a day. It takes approximately 2-3 weeks for it to build up your immune system. In the first 2 weeks of taking the acidophilus, you can also take Actifed to help with your allergies. After this period, you will only need to take the Acidophilus. Your pet would at least expect you to try this before sending them off to a shelter. Try it! What else have you got to lose? (other than your pet) Rachael

On a side note:
My dad (who is extremely allergic animals) has been on Acidophilus for over a year. Previous to taking Acidophilus, he took Reactin, Actifed, Sudifed, etc... for over 25 years. He is living proof that Acidophilus works! He has NO allergy symptoms from our 3 dogs, and 7 cats, 2 ferrets, 2 rabbits, and 5 hamsters.
YAY! :D

It's summer! Let's go out and PLAY!

Summer is here (well... depending on our lovely Newfoundland temperatures), and that means Kitty and Puppers want to go out to play! (Whether they are with you or not!)

Cats have a tendency to find the smallest tear in the screen window, and make it their new exit door to the "outside". There are also many un-neutered male cats who are "roaming" to find their mate... so Miss Kitty might want to leave (especially if she is not spayed).

Puppers hear more dogs outside in the neighborhood having fun, and may want to go find a play date. Darting out the door seems to be the new Summer Olympic game for them!

Whether you have a cat or dog... or you know someone who does, please keep in mind that it's up to us to protect our furry friends.

On a different note, as you all may not be aware of, there is THEFT. Believe it or not, there are some malicious people who care NOT that you have a 4 legged companion that is a part of your family. There has been many recent dog and cat thefts that have come to my attention (notably pure breeds). This is not to cause you to be alarmed.... just to be aware and cautious.

Identification/registration of your pets is extremely important. Collars with ID tags and microchipping is a powerful tool with protecting your pets. Microchipping is NOT painful, and it's inexpensive (50 bux at some veterinary clinics!). If your pet HATES to wear a collar, show them some tuff love. They DO get used to it... just have patience :)

For those of you who have been in the group since the beginning, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. It is my priority in life to keep our pets safe, and I thank you for helping me with my goals.

For those of you who are here because of your missing pet, I ask you to please not give up hope on your reunion. I will continue to do my best to get your babies home!

And remember... if it gets too hot outside... be sure that Kitty and Puppers find it hot too! Wearing a fur coat in the summer means lots of water and shade!

Have a fabulous summer my friends!

Cougar Flight 491

Cougar flight 491 has been on my mind since it fell into the ocean on March 12th, 2009. I'm having a hard day. I have been listening to Mark Frost's song "Fall Into The Ocean" over and over... and I still can't believe that our friends are gone. As I sit here typing away, the tears are flowing obscuring my view.

A couple of days ago, I created a website dedicated to the crew aboard Cougar Flight 491. Here is what I wrote:

I would like to start by offering my most sincere and deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims.

I began working offshore at the tender age of 20 in 2000 and resigned my position March 2008. I had the honor and privilege of working with John Pelley on the "GSF Grand Banks".

The reason why I started the group and website, was and will continue to memorialize and honor those who lost their lives, and to give hope and comfort to all those who have been affected by this horrific loss.

It is my intention to give you all a place where you can go to express your feelings and memories of our friends/family/coworkers who lost their lives, and to send prayers to the families who have been deeply affected.

I would also like to give my strength and love to Robert Decker and his family. You are always in my thoughts, and I pray for the healing of your mind, body and soul.
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=58652073390

With all the love I have in my heart, I give it all to you, to help you in the days ahead. I pray for peace in your hearts and comfort in knowing that we are hear to support you in any way possible.

Sincerely, respectfully, and lovingly,
Rachael Bowdridge

Go on b'y! You're SICK!

"Go on b'y! You're SICK!" is a phrase that we use here in Newfoundland.
It's kinda interpreted as "No way... that's crazy!".
The harsh reality is... I'm sick.

Yes.

Some sort of cold/flu/virus/germs have invaded my body and won't go away (no matter how hard I try to blow them out my nose or cough them up my lungs).

I have lost my taste buds... anyone who finds them will be rewarded.

*cough, sniffle, groan*

Twitter my butterfinger

Ok, so am I the only one who has checked out Twitter?

If you haven't, then ne worry pas... you're not missing out on much.
IT'S BORING.

I'd rather write boring stuff on here (where no one is looking) instead of being LIMITED on how many characters I type on "Twitter"(where no one is looking).

At least with having a blog (again, "blog" being a stupid word), I'm not forced to sum up my brain capacity in a couple of sentences.

Oh wait... this is only a couple of sentences....

Offshore Safety.... is ANYONE listening?

My opinion to offshore safety?

Well, for starters... everyone who works offshore is made to sign a confidentiality agreement with their company. NOTHING is to be said. If word gets out that there is a problem... with ANYTHING... as Donald Trump would say: "YOU'RE FIRED!".

People are afraid of losing their jobs (and high payroll).... and so, people are afraid of the consequences for opening their mouths.

What have I got to lose? NOTHING. I've already lost pretty much everything I had after I left the offshore industry. I also lost my trust in them BEFORE I quit.

The problem I have, is if you open your mouth about safety, you're pretty much slapped in the face.

  • I have a problem with the survival suits (which are designed for MEN...and I could NEVER get a proper seal)...
  • I have a problem with the helicopters (which always seemed to be breaking down)..
  • I have a problem with people taking short cuts with safety TO GET THE JOB DONE.
  • I have a problem with some of the people who were "in command" who chose to ignore my safety issues.
  • I have a problem with the length of time in which you are made to work.... (12 hour days/3 weeks)
  • I have a problem with having to 'keep my mouth shut'.
I know this isn't the most appropriate time to let people know what I think, because of the horrific helicopter crash that claimed the lives of my friends last week.... but I just needed to get this much out. I've been known to be a little outspoken, but when it comes SAFETY.. I WILL NOT shut my mouth.

I had a supervisor once tell me "If you want to continue getting a cheque, then I'd advise you to keep your mouth shut, and do your work". NICE ONE.... bitch.

I am positive that I will have more rants in the near future... but for now... this is all that I can say. It's hard to type when you're seeing red.

Not that anyone is reading this... I still needed to say it.

Oh... by the way... this picture above is of an oil rig that I used to work on.

My favorite quote..... as quoted by: ME.

"I'd rather be poor and happy than to be rich and miserable".

Goodbye offshore industry... it's been an "experience" I'll NEVER forget.

Blog the blob

SO, I just got off the phone with a friend of mine, Sean.

Sean had surgery a couple of days ago.... on the noggin'. (that means his 'head' for those of you who are not a Newfoundlander). He had a growth (of some kind) on his skull, and when I think of the growth... it kinda takes me back to the word "Blog".

Maybe this word BLOG can be referred to as the blob that was removed from poor Sean's head.

Anywho.. Sean is healing perfectly since the operation.. He still drinks beer, he still likes food, and she still talks about women and sex. Way to go!

Captain's blog....

Captain's blog....

....Blog?
What kind of stupid word is that?
"BLOG"
Common... say it out loud.
*blog
When I hear the word BLOG, it somewhat reminds me of the feeling I get after I've ate too much.
Why not chummey? Chummey sounds a little more intelligent than "BLOG".

.....whatever.
Any who... this is my first blog. There. That was fun.
